[Siren Classic ManLove Erotic Alternative Cowboy Romance, M/M, HEA] James Treebell was a desperate man left with very little after buying a badly neglected farm off his homophobic father. Luke Bourne was his only hope. When Luke first saw James, he knew he'd help this man with whatever he needed, and hopefully that would include him. It wasn't all smooth sailing for either of them. Luke left his job and home, then started collecting stock of any variety that would be no cost to James. Going from bulls to bunnies was no easy feat. Add to that inseminating a herd of heifers, then going from heifers to highland sheep--Luke was going all out to help his gorgeous, Yorkshire-born Australian sheep farmer. Unfortunately, the problems didn't end there. When the farm was sold right out from under them, the race was on to save the farm, their new stock, and James's life. ** A Siren Erotic Romance

For some reason I was under the crazy notion that this was a book about Bull shifters. Maybe it was wishful thinking...wherever the idea came from it's not true. The bulls featured in this book are pedigreed breeding bulls. There are a few variety, but this story mostly concerns the large grass eating Red Polls. Since I've always liked COW things: western movies & books, cowboys, PBR bull riding, my kitchen has a black & white Holstein cow motif, I even owned a Bullmastiff, and seeing the prize winners at the state fair; the big beautiful bull on the cover caught my attention.

The book summary which I obviously didn't read until after I finished the book really gives a succinct summation of what the story entails without spoiling things for the reader. But there were some important details that were left out, I guess to give reviewers something to write about. This is the first of at least four books in the Bourne Bull series. Each book is the individual story of one of the four Bourne brothers, two of which are twins. Luke one of the main characters in this book is one of the twins.

The Bourne brothers have a very successful business selling frozen semen of highly prized breeding stock and producing for sale excellent heifers. They each have the role that best suits their personality, which adds to their overall success. Inherited from their parents, they learned the cattle breeding business from an early age and that hard work pays off in the long run. Luke is in charge of "milking" the bulls, including some meanies that come in as outside contracts. One disappointment is there was no explanation of this critical aspect of the Bourne operation. Though man milking was described in some detail.

Thirty eight year old Luke and his right hand man, Rob worked well together with thousand pounds bulls that were at times both stubborn and testy.
Working with the even tempered Red Polls was a pleasure. This was tough demanding physical labor that wasn't for the faint of heart or for at least one of Luke's brother who didn't like getting dirty. What it produced were strong men who were great at meeting challenges head-on. Which is exactly what James Treebell from the neighboring run down ranch needed.

James figured he'd find the ranch in not the best shape when he returned to Yorkshire, England from ten years away in Australia learning and surviving on sheep stations. But nothing prepared him for the ranch's state of disrepair or the intense homophobic scorn of his father. The vindictive man made James use his hard earned savings needed to begin repairing, updating, and restocking the ranch, to purchase it, despite being his sole heir. So hat in hand James went to Bourne's stockman, Luke for assistance.

What he didn't expect was the instantaneous strong mutual attraction or the bad management lecture. James storming off and a very hectic schedule, left Luke with several days to figure out how to repair the damage of antipathetic thoughtless comments. When he finally reaches the Treebell farm he is shocked by wherever his eyes land at the state of extreme disrepair.

James needs a lot of help. And Luke is just the man to help him. If James will accept it. How Luke goes about convincing James and their eventual HEA is meat of this story. There is a reason that this book is labeled an "erotic romance" by the publisher. If you have a tendency to blush or pant during passionate scenes then you are in for some candy apple red cheeks.

A very compelling theme in this book is the importance of family. Being a single child. The fun of four brothers. Accepting parents versus homophobic ones. What makes a family? How it hurts worse when abusive words & actions come from a family member. What family members do for each other in time of need or during a crisis. How it feels to be made a part of a loving family.

This is the first of four books. I already purchased the other three from the publisher because I just couldn't wait for them to finally reach Amazon's website. The next story features the oldest Bourne brother, Adam and their Aberdeen Angus bulls. And yes I already started reading it.
